Project Lazarus
Newport County Prevention Coalition addresses opiate misuse using the public health model, Project Lazarus. Project Lazarus increases awareness of opioid overdose risk as well as the availability of prevention, treatment and recovery services.
Conceptualized as a wheel, with a “Hub” and “Spokes,” Project Lazarus asserts that overdose deaths are preventable and that communities are responsible for their own health.
In the “hub” are Public Awareness, Coalition Action and Data and Evaluation.
The “spokes” include Community Education, Provider Education, Hospital/Medical Policies (safe prescribing, meaningful alternatives for chronic pain,) Diversion Control (reduce the presence of unused medicines in society,) Pain Patient Support, Harm Reduction; and Addiction Treatment.
If you would like to become a volunteer or want to learn more about Project Lazarus, please reach out to us and we will be in touch shortly. Thank you!
