The Campaign to Change Direction is a collaboration of concerned citizens, mental health leaders, educators, and youth who have come together to change the culture in our communities about mental health, mental illness, and emotional well-being. Together, we can increase mental health awareness and reduce stigma by helping ourselves and others. The initiative was inspired by a discussion at the White House National Conference on Mental Health in 2013 – and was a direct response to the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting. The goal of The Campaign to Change Direction is to change the way we discuss the impact and prevalence of mental health challenges in America. The Campaign serves as an early intervention initiative by introducing age-appropriate mental health content and literacy to young people. Our objective is to foster communities where those in need receive the care and support, they deserve. The Campaign to Change Direction encourages all Americans to pay attention to their emotional well-being and reinforces that our emotional well-being is just as important as our physical well-being.
